              A car is burned out and people are starting to crowd around.

              A charred body slumps over the steering wheel. People look
              on in horror as black smoke escapes the vehicle.

              Now a crime scene.  Warner and Stabler approach through the
              tape.

                                     STABLER

              Warner shows them some gruesome detail as yet not
              disclosed...

                                     STABLER

                                     STABLER

                                     WARNER

                        fucking each other?

                                     STABLER

              INT. SVU SQUADROOM - DAY ONE

              The team is reviewing pictures of other burned bodies.

                                     BYSTANDER 1

              I saw, I knew, I understood. Here on a public street, the
              priest, the cobbler, the peddler the entrance to the
              church, the red light of the brothel, the scales of
              justice. I can't stand it any longer!

                                     BYSTANDER 1 (CONT'D)
                        I have lost her...Give her back to me.

                                     STABLER
                        Who? Who? Who? Who?

              Cragen reads from a newspaper article on the front page.

                                     BYSTANDER 1
                        My wife.

                                     BENSON
                        Your wife...Phooey! Clown!

                                     BYSTANDER 1
                        Clown! You're talking about your wife
                        maybe!

                                     BENSON
                        That may be true.

              PUSH IN on Stabler's face, aghast.

                                      ACT TWO

              FADE IN

              INT. BYSTANDER 1'S HOUSE - HALLWAY - DAY TWO

              Benson and Stabler sneak up to the front door, listen for
              sound then as they break down the door.

                                     BENSON
                        To what part of your body would you say
                        you refer most often?

                                     BYSTANDER 1
                        To God.

              Benson opens the door to the hallway.

                                     BENSON
                        But that doesn't go any more. We don't
                        listen to that sort of thing any more.
                        It's necessary to ask such things of
                        volcanoes and earthquakes. We others
                        feed ourselves on the dirty little
                        stories we hear in the confessional. And
                        that's all there is - that's life!

                                     BYSTANDER 1
                        ah, yes, there we are, that's life! Oh,
                        well, it all goes down the drain sooner
                        or later.

                                     BENSON
                        But of course.

              Benson's cell phone rings and she gets some crazy news
              about Bystander 1's potential innocence.  Off Benson,
              staring in horror at Stabler yelling at Bystander 1 --

                                     ACT THREE

              FADE IN
              INT. OBSERVATION ROOM - DAY TWO

              Stabler and Benson brief Greylek.  Bystander 1 sits eating
              from a pizza, alone in Interrogation.

                                     BENSON
                        Bitch! Look at your body!

                                     GREYLEK
                        Leave me, God.

                                     STABLER
                               (realizing)
                        Tell me how this happened to you.

              Off Benson and Stabler as they watch Bystander 1 stuffing
              food into his mouth.

                                                        FADE OUT.

                                     ACT FOUR

              FADE IN

              INT. HUDSON COUNTY COURTHOUSE - HALLWAY - DAY THREE

              Benson and Stabler walk out with ADA Greylek. We see
              Bystander 1 being brought by in handcuffs by Munch and Fin.

                                     MUNCH
                        Where have you put it? Give me my
                        Gruyere!

              INT. HUDSON COUNTY COURTHOUSE - COURTROOM - DAY FOUR

              Stabler in the witness box.  Judge Whoever presides.
              Greylek cross examines Bystander 1.

                                     GREYLEK
                        Here you are.

                                     BYSTANDER 1
                        Don't hurt Mummy!

              INT. HUDSON COUNTY COURTHOUSE - COURTROOM - DAY FIVE

              ADA Kim Greylek cross-examines Bystander 2.

                                     GREYLEK
                        Accursed woman!

                                     BYSTANDER 2
                        The virgin! Ah, that's what he was
                        looking for.

              The jury all look at Bystander 1 in shock. Close on the
              Defense attorney.

              INT. HUDSON COUNTY COURTHOUSE - HALLWAY/HOLDING CELL - DAY
              FIVE

              Benson and two Court Officers drag Bystander 1 down the
              hall.

              Greylek walks back to her table.  Off her sullen face.
