Gasp (American Remake of Samuel Beckett's "Breath")

Curtain

1. Faint light on stage crawling with worms. Light flickers every 5 seconds, in a slow strobe-like effect of unsureness. After 40 seconds of this effect, hold light, bright, for 5 more seconds then cut to a quick darkness.

2. Still darkness. A rumble of ground sounds that grow steadily and yet remain vague. The light slowly rises as the volume of the ground sounds grows, in equal temperament. Once both the sound and light become unbearable, hold for 24 seconds, after which continue in the same fashion back down to still, quiet darkness, held for 12 seconds.

3. A loud gasp simultaneous to the lights being turned up to even more unbearable brightness. This effect should only last for less than a second. Silence and hard darkness held for 12 seconds after.

Curtain

WORMS

No straight lines. All should be curled and squirming (when available).

GASP

Preferably male in gender, coming deep from the gut and out through the head, finished in a desperately feminine fashion.

MAXIMUM LIGHT

Unbearable. If 0 = dark and 10 = bright, light should move from 0 to 10 and back, finally flashing an 11.
