The (211)__________________

My (1)___________ are very confused. There is even much (2)______ as to where they begin; for at (3)_________ I feel appalling (4)_________ of (5)______ stretching behind me, while at other (6)_________ it seems as if the present (7)________ were an isolated (8)___________ in a grey, formless (9)____________. I am not even certain how I am communicating this (10)____________. While I know I am speaking, I have a vague (11)____________ that some strange and perhaps terrible (12)_________ will be needed to bear what I say to the (13)___________ where I wish to be heard. My (14)___________, too, is bewilderingly cloudy. I seem to have suffered a great (15)____________ - perhaps from some utterly monstrous (16)________ of my (17)_____ of unique, incredible (18)_______________.

These (19)___________ of (20)____________, of course, all stem from that worm-riddled (21)__________. I remember when I found it - in a dimly lighted (22)_________ near the black, oily (23)____________ where the (24)____________ always swirl. That (25)___________ was very old, and the ceiling-high (26)_________ full of rotting (27)_____________ reached back endlessly through windowless inner (28)_________ and (29)_____________. There were, besides, great formless (30)________ of (31)______ on the (32)_________ and in crude (33)___________; and it was in one of these (34)_____________ that I found the (35)___________. I never learned its (36)__________, for the early (37)____________ were missing; but it fell open toward the (38)_________ and gave me a (39)____________ of (40)_________ which sent my (41)___________ reeling.

There was a (42)_________ - a sort of (43)_________ of (44)______ to say and do - which I recognized as something black and forbidden; something which I had read of before in furtive (45)___________ of mixed (46)_______ and (47)_________ penned by those strange ancient (48)________ into the (49)___________ guarded (50)______ whose decaying (51)_________ I loved to absorb. It was a (52)________ - a (53)_______ - to certain (54)____________ and (55)________ of which (56)__________ have dreamed and whispered since the (57)__________ was young, and which lead to (58)_______ and (59)_________ beyond the three (60)_______ and (62)_________ of (63)___________ and (64)_________ that we know. Not for (65)___________ had any (66)____________ recalled its vital (67)__________ or known where to find it, but this (68)_________ was very old indeed. No (69)__________, but the (70)___________ of some half-crazed (71)________, had traced these ominous (72)_______ in (73)______ of awesome (74)___________.

I remember how the old (75)___________ leered and tittered, and made a curious (76)__________ with his (77)_________ when I bore it away. He had refused to take (78)________ for it, and only long afterwards did I guess why. As I hurried (79)__________ through those narrow, winding, mist-cloaked waterfront (80)__________ I had a frightful (81)_________ of being stealthily followed by softly padding (82)___________. The centuried, tottering (83)___________ on both (84)_________ seemed alive with a fresh and morbid (85)__________ - as if some hitherto closed (86)____________ of evil (87)____________ had abruptly been opened. I felt that those (88)___________ and over-hanging (89)__________ of mildewed (90)___________ and fungoid (91)_________ and (92)_________ - with (93)_____-like, (94)_________-paned (95)__________ that leered - could hardly desist from advancing and crushing me . . . yet I had read only the least (96)_________ of that blasphemous (97)________ before closing the (98)______ and bringing it away.

I remember how I read the (99)____________ at last - white-faced, and locked in the (100)________ (101)__________ that I had long devoted to strange (102)________. The great (103)__________ was very still, for I had not gone up till after (!04)________. I think I had a (105)_________ then - though the (106)_________ are very uncertain - and I know there were many (107)__________. Just what the (108)__________ was I cannot say; for since then I have known many (109)_______ and (110)_________, and have had all my (111)__________ of (112)______________ dissolved and refashioned. It was by the (113)__________ of (114)________ that I read - I recall the relentless (115)____________ of the (116)_________ - and there were (117)_________ that came every now and then from distant (118)_____________. I seemed to keep track of those (119)________________ with a peculiar (120)___________, as if I feared to hear some very remote, intruding (121)__________ among them.

Then came the first (122)________ and (123)_______ at the dormer (124)______ that looked out high above the other (125)_________ of the (126)__________. It came as I droned aloud the ninth (127)____________ of that primal (128)_________, and I knew amidst my (129)_________ what it meant. For he who passes the (130)_______ always wins a (131)___________, and never again can he be alone. I had evoked - and the (132)_____________ was indeed all I had suspected. That (133)__________ I passed the (134)__________ to a (135)_________ of twisted (136)______ and (137)________, and when (138)________ found me in the (139)____________ I saw in the (140)_____ and (141)_______ and (142)_________ that which I had never seen before.

Nor could I ever after see the (143)_________ as I had known it. Mixed with the present (144)___________ was always a little of the (145)______________ and a little of the (146)__________, and every once-familiar (147)___________ loomed alien in the new (148)__________ brought by my widened (149)_________. From then on I walked in a fantastic (150)__________ of unknown and half-known (152)____________; and with each new (153)___________ crossed, the less plainly could I recognize the (154)________ of the narrow (155)_____________ to which I had so long been bound. What I saw about me, none else saw; and I grew doubly silent and aloof lest I be thought mad. (156)__________ had a fear of me, for they felt the outside (157)________ which never left my (158)____________. But still I read more - in hidden, forgotten (159)__________ and (160)_________ to which my new (161)__________ led me - and pushed through fresh (162)__________ of (163)________ and (164)___________ and (165)___________toward the (166)________ of the unknown (167)_______________.

I remember the (168)__________ I made the five concentric (169)_______________ of (170)___________ on the (171)___________, and stood in the innermost one chanting that monstrous (172)____________ the (173)_________ from (174)____________ had brought. The (175)____________________ melted away, and I was swept by a black (176)___________ through (177)______________ of fathomless (178)_________ with the (179)_______-like (180)___________ of unknown (181)________ (182)_________ below me. After a (183)__________ there was utter (184)_____________, and then the (185)________ of myriad (186)____________ forming strange, alien (187)__________. Finally I saw a green-litten (188)_____________ far below me, and discerned on it the twisted (189)_____________ of a (190)____________ built in no (191)__________ I had ever known or read or dreamed of. As I floated closer to that (192)_________ I saw a great square (193)____________ of (194)________ in an open (195)___________, and felt a hideous (196)____________ clutching at me. I screamed and struggled, and after a (197)_____________ was again in my (198)___________ sprawled flat over the five phosphorescent (199)__________ on the (200)____________. In that (201)__________ wandering there was no more of (202)_____________ than in many a former (203)___________ wandering; but there was more of (204)__________ because I knew I was closer to those outside (205)__________ and (206)___________ than I had ever been before. Thereafter I was more cautious with my (207)___________, for I had no (208)____________ to be cut off from my (209)______________ and from the (210)____________ in unknown (211)_______________ whence I could never return...
